SeaKeeper
About
Seakeeper is the market leader in gyroscopic boat stabilization, founded in 2002 in Maryland by Shep McKinney and John Adams. Their gyro uses a vacuum-sealed, high-speed flywheel spinning up to 10,000 RPM to counteract roll. Unlike fin stabilizers or paravanes, it works at all speeds, including at rest, with no external appendages or through hulls. Seakeeper claims up to 95% roll reduction in moderate seas (closer to 80% in rougher conditions), and it's now factory-installed across more than 300 boat brands, from 23-foot center consoles up to 100+ foot yachts. SeaKeeper offers a transferrable warranty of 2 yrs / 2,000 hrs.
SeaKeeper is also the founder of SeaKeeper Ride, a transom-mounted system for boats roughly 19–55 ft, addresses underway pitch and yaw (a different problem than the gyro's at-rest roll).
Run together, the two systems now share data via a free software update that boosts underway performance by about 40%.
