About
Bastien is a Naval Architect and Marine Surveyor based in Chaguaramas, Trinidad, serving the wider Caribbean. Born in France and educated in both France and the UK, he holds an engineering degree in Yacht and Powercraft Design from the Maritime Faculty of Southampton Institute. He began his career in French design offices before moving to Trinidad to work at a luxury sailing catamaran boatyard. As co-founder and Managing Director of AMD, he has conducted approximately 700 marine surveys and accumulated extensive experience across naval architecture, project management, and yacht refit.
His survey work covers condition and valuation, pre-purchase, damage, sea trials, and tonnage assessments for insurance companies, banks, and private clients, with reports issued in both English and French across a range of vessel types including yachts, fishing vessels, tugs, cargo vessels, and barges. On the design side, he has developed concepts and preliminary designs using 2D and 3D modeling and has drafted Fire and Safety Plans to SOLAS and IMO standards for tugs, crew boats, and large charter vessels. His project management experience spans the full scope of sailing and motor yacht repairs and refits, from cost estimation and contractor selection through to client reporting.
Bastien holds dealerships with Doyle Sails, Karver, and Facnor, and is actively involved with the Caribbean Sailing Association as both a Measurer and contributor to the technical development of its Rating Rule.
Speaks fluent French and English, Spanish written and spoken, Portuguese spoken.

Great Surveyor -but SLOW to give report
I attended a survey where Bastien did a thorough and fantastic job, BUT the time it took to receive the report was beyond slow. I recommend Bastien for his skills, but recommend not paying him the full amount until the report is IN HAND!
